Sand casting is a widely used traditional casting process, which can be roughly divided into clay sand casting, red sand casting, and sand casting. The sand mold used is generally composed of an outer sand mold and a core (mold). Due to the low cost and easy availability of molding materials used in sand casting, as well as their ability to be reused multiple times, simple processing, and fast efficiency in sand casting manufacturing, they have long been the basic traditional process in the production of steel, iron, and aluminum castings, making them suitable for both batch and large-scale production.
According to the investigation, currently in the international casting industry, 65-75% of castings are produced and cast using sand molds, and clay casting production accounts for about 70% of this. The main reason is that sand casting has lower costs, simpler production processes, shorter production cycles compared to other casting methods, and there are also more technical personnel engaged in sand casting. So most car parts, mechanical parts, hardware parts, railway parts, etc. are produced using clay sand wet molding technology. When the wet mold cannot meet the requirements, consider using clay sand dry sand molds or other types of sand molds. The weight of castings produced by clay green sand casting can range from a few kilograms to tens of kilograms, casting some small and medium-sized castings, while castings produced by clay dry sand casting can weigh tens of tons. Various sand casting methods have unique advantages, so sand casting is the molding process of the vast majority of casting enterprises. In recent years, some sand casting manufacturers in China have combined automated sand processing, sand casting molding equipment, and automatic casting equipment to achieve efficient, low-cost, and large-scale standardized production and casting of various castings.
